Is it time to go biodegradable?
A Recycling Nation
As recycling becomes a hotter topic than ever, the pressure really is on to move to biodegradable packaging and labels across all industries.
Supermarkets are already making the move to card trays instead of plastic, especially avoiding the use of black plastics and companies are looking at making packaging from materials that are totally biodegradable.
In a recent survey by Tonight, it was stated that 87% of people believe packaging producers should use biodegradable materials as an alternative to plastic. That is a huge proportion of the participants and simply can not be ignored.
So what about your printed labels?
Packaging comes in many forms such as glass, card and plastic, the printed labels used on the packaging generally has a lamination to them. This means they are durable and can have a variety of distinct finishes giving labels a more elegant and prestigious look. However, they are not often biodegradable.
Are biodegradable labels durable?
Biodegradable labels can scratch more easily than their plastic coated counterparts, however, there is a certain value and branding opportunity for products and services that host biodegradable labels. This shows that service providers and producers care about their products, their packaging and labelling and most importantly, the environment. This in itself sends an extremely positive message to a nation that is becoming far more environmentally conscious.
