Because this is a new event, we wanted to get the scoop on what makes this competition different. We spoke to Jody, Operations Manager for The Gin to My Tonic, who gave us the low down…
Can you tell us a bit about The Gin To My Tonic Awards, how did it all begin?
“The Gin To My Tonic Awards was born out of our desire to connect our gin loving community directly with the wonderful array of craft distillers we are lucky enough to work with. Most awards are decided by a small panel of judges. We wanted to put the judging in the hands of the people who adore Gin. Unlike many awards, we open up voting across the year and invite Gin fans to choose their favourite gins in a number of categories. This, we feel makes our awards unique and adds a level of prestige that no other Gin awards can offer.“
Sounds refreshingly different but what are some of the benefits of entering The Gin To My Tonic Awards?
“Unlike most Gin awards, The Gin To My Tonic awards are fully immersive and craft distilleries can expect to engage with gin lovers on an unprecedented level. We actively encourage Gin lovers from across the UK to seek out their favourite gin, we engage with guests at our Gin Festivals and Shows throughout the country and promote shortlisted distilleries in literature, social media and newsletters across the year. In addition, we put shortlisted expressions on our bars at events, broadening the exposure that a product will receive. This level of exposure coupled with the unique way in which the awards are decided offer a fantastic marketing platform for small, independent craft distilleries to introduce themselves to thousands of spirit fans across the year.”
In what ways do award medal stickers impact positioning in the competitive gin market, and how do they differentiate winners from other products?
“The fact that these awards are decided by a public vote means that the Gins that receive a medal have been tried and tested by the public at large. There is no better measure for quality than that of the Gin fanatics across the UK. Winning an award decided by a panel of judges is a wonderful accolade for any product, but to be sipped, sampled and celebrated by thousands of ardent gin drinkers and come out on top is a truly unique and prestigious mark of quality. We do feel that winning a medal sets the product apart and is a perfect celebration of the alchemy of distillation.”
How does The Gin To My Tonic Awards actively promote and showcase award-winning brands to a wider audience, both within the industry and among consumers?
“The Gin to My Tonic awards is in its infancy, in its inaugural year the awards generated over 10,000 votes from the general public! The way in which we promote the awards across our business is unique, stocking shortlisted gins on our bars for thousands of people to try in person at our many events, championing them in print and on social media and in newsletters direct to our gin loving community across the year. “
Does The Gin To My Tonic Awards contribute to fostering a community among gin enthusiasts, and how can brands capitalise on this community engagement to strengthen their brand presence and loyalty?
“The ethos at The Gin To My Tonic is about fostering a community of gin lovers, giving a platform to up-and-coming distilleries and helping to grow the community. It has been in everything we do and The Gin To My Tonic awards are an extension to this. Offering an immersive and unique way to engage with hundreds of thousands of people both in person and through other key touch points. We are truly blessed to work with some incredible brands and the success of the awards in its first year is testament to this.”
